I’ve been working on a new Modded Minecraft Pack for MC 1.12.2 lately, and to keep things quick and simple (or so I thought), I decided to just use MultiMC Instance Exports for the testers to use, until such time as we felt ready to actually send the pack off to Curse / the Twitch Launcher and ready for public consumption. One thing I’ve discovered however is that a lot of people within my community don’t actually know how to use MultiMC packs or how to properly import them.

(THESE INSTRUCTIONS ONLY WORK FOR THE “DEVELOPMENT BRANCH” OF MULTIMC. IN MULTIMC, OPEN “SETTINGS”, “MULTIMC” THEN “FEATURES”. UPDATE CHANNEL TO “DEVELOPMENT”, AND YOU SHOULD BE MOVED TO A NEWER SET OF FEATURES.)

Right Click in the empty space of your MultiMC Window, left click on “Create Instance”.
This brings up a new window. Give this new instance a name, select the button next to “Import Modpack” and hit the triple dot button at the end of that line. This will let you select the modpack you want to import. Using this method automatically installs the correct Forge version and ensures all folders and files get put into the proper places. It will even install a pack icon for you, if one has been included with the Modpack ZIP!
